The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom adds Canadian dates

Winnipeg, Victoria and Outremont!

The Cinematheque in Winnipeg welcomes The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom for a 5-day run starting June 10th. Writer/Director Tara Johns and star Julia Stone will present the film and participate in a Q&A session after each screening for the first three days (June 10, 11 and 12). Much of the film’s exteriors were shot in Winnipeg and the surrounding rural communities.  Manitobains will certainly recognize the distinctive landscape that provides the striking backdrop for this coming of age story.

After Winnipeg, the film heads back to the West Coast, this time to play in Victoria, B.C. June 30 – July 2 at the University of Victoria’s repertory theatre Cinecenta.  Following that, the Dolly train steams east to Montreal for a one-night event at the Théâtre Outremont August 1st where the original version with French subtitles will be projected.

The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom is Tara Johns’ first feature film. Produced by Palomar (Quebec) and Buffalo Gal Pictures (Manitoba) the film stars Macha Grenon, Julia Stone and Gil Bellows.
